More than a hundred Central American migrants - seeking asylum in the US - are gathered at the border in Mexico. The caravan has traveled toward the US for weeks, and the migrants say they will not leave until they are allowed in. Our correspondent Franc Contreras has been following the developments.
FRANC CONTRERAS MEXICO CITY "The caravan of of undocumented (OFFCAM) immigrants crossing through Mexico has finally reached the northern border of Mexico with United States. Making their way north. Critics say they are simply trying to find better paying jobs in the United States, and in part that is certainly the case of many migrants have said they do seek a better life in the United States."
MEXICAN BORDER SHOWDOWN "US President Donald Trump calls caravan a threat to America"
SARA MARQUEZ MIGRANT FROM EL SALVADOR dubbed "We come with a purpose of seeking a better life for our children, really we are fleeing because we know the situation in our country is not within our reach, within our hands to solve the problem. We are looking to save their lives."
As they approach, the US custom officials and the immigration officials, they do face the possibility of a detention and long prolonged periods of time separated from their families, so it's quite a risk for the asylum seekers, they are facing as they approach US officials after having passed all the way through Mexico during a month-long journey.
