Hong Kong’s City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) has been around since 1979 and was the first professional dance troupe in the city. But the art form is still not mainstream entertainment in the region.
"Some say: I don't understand! So they won’t watch," says Bobo Lai, one of the CCDC’s dancers.

The troupe has been trying to come up with more light-hearted shows adapted from renowned fairy tales, which are suitable for families. That has gradually gained popularity with the Hong Kong public.
But the troupe is also looking far beyond that pool. Through the “China Dance Development Program”, it wants to enable more exchanges between dancers from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
