China, the host of the next Winter Olympics, collected just nine medals in PyeongChang, but the future looks bright for the 2022 Games on home soil.
China's athletes are taking home with one gold, six silvers, and two bronzes. The country ranked 16th in the Olympic medal tally. Of the nine medals, four were won by women, four by men, and one by a figure skating pair. Team China collected four medals from sports on snow - a first for the country at the Games. Wu Dajing won the nation's only gold, coming out on top in the men's 500-meter short track speed skating event. Liu Jiayu snatched the silver in the women's snowboard half pipe. The emergence of young stars also captured the public's attention. 17-year-old Li Jinyu won silver in the ladies 15-hundred meter short track, and 20-year-old Gao Tingyu became the first Chinese man to medal in 500-meter speed skating, getting the bronze. China had as many medals during the 2014 Games, and two fewer medals than in 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver. China is taking home the fewest number of gold medals since 2002.
