An exhibition of Meissen works, the earliest porcelain brand in Europe, is now open on Fujian Province's Gulangyu Island. Visitors will have a rare chance to get up close to the delicate pieces, many of which date back to more than three hundred years ago.
Meissen porcelain or china is considered to be the first European hard-paste porcelain brand. This display of luxurious dining table porcelain consists of 122 pieces. The edges are trimmed in pure gold. This collection of porcelain figurines was created in 1753. It consists of 21 monkeys, which form a symphony orchestra. If you look closely, you will find the monkey musicians have different gestures, but none of them are looking at the conductor.
These pieces are different to the Chinese style, but I think they have blended in Chinese elements very well.
MICHAEL RAY ALBRECHT DIRECTOR OF INT'L BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, MEISSEN "The exhibition includes eight Meissen treasures from the Palace Museum and the Shanghai City History Museum, as well as 26 porcelain collections from the Meissen company itself. The brand was famous for its handicraft traditions. Every piece by the company went through at least 80 processes. Many say the Meissen name stands for 'discreet European luxury'."
