Our reporter Miro Lu interviewed Chen Gang, the Assistant Director and Senior Research Fellow with the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore. Chen Gang said that China is focusing on structural reforms and will advance its opening-up policies.
CHEN GANG, SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW EAST ASIAN INSTITUTE, NUS "A lot of reform agendas proposed by the government on various areas including some of the tough areas like financial reforms, further reform of opening up its economic sectors, its market, about welcoming the foreign investment and also some of the social issues like poverty alleviation and also environmental protection. So, basically I think it is about continuous reform in an environment of slower economic growth. The Chinese government wants to have a slower growth and to focus on other areas like structural reforms for the economy and also the environmental protection, social reforms, tax reforms, so all these can only be achieved in a slower economic growth environment. So these days we have seen the government has de-emphasizing the importance of the GDP growth."
