Two Chinese navigation satellites launched Monday have entered into orbit and joined the BeiDou-3 family to form a network.
According to the chief designer of the system, China is scheduled to launch another two satellites in March to form the simplest global system. The BeiDou system has been widely used in meteorology and hydrology, communication and transport, forest fire prevention and power grid operation. It has played an important role in responding to emergencies and providing effective rescue and disaster relief. China plans to expand the network to over 30 BeiDou satellites by 2020, which will by then have the ability to provide services globally.
