The leaders of ISIL-linked armed groups behind the Marawi crisis in the Philippines, Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute, were killed in clashes with Philippines' armed forces in the southern city of Marawi on Monday, Philippines defense minister confirmed.
Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana also said that another rebel commander, Mahmud Ahmad, who is Malaysia’s most wanted terrorist, was still at large.
A photo of Isnilon Hapilon whose face was covered with blood has circulated among Marawi residents, according to the reports.
