On Tuesday morning, around a hundred respected calligraphers gathered in Hangzhou for a charity event.
With handwriting that's literally worth thousands, the calligraphers together wrote hundreds of "Fu(福)" characters as charity work for a philanthropic program, each "Fu(福)" was sold at 100 yuan (some 15 US dollars).
"Fu(福)" can be defined as "to all best wishes" in Mandarin.
It is a tradition for the Chinese community to hang a beautifully handwritten "Fu(福)" during Spring Festival as a blessing for the new year.
Some hang a "Fu(福)" up-side-down to imply “Fu Dao 福到(倒)”, which means the blessing and good fortune arrives as “reverse” and “arrive”, which sounds the same in Mandarin.
