Costa Rica made a great decision in establishing diplomatic relations with China, Alexandra Mora, the country’s Minister of Foreign Trade, said during a visit to China to mark the 10th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Regarding a common visa policy for Chinese tourists, he said that Costa Rica is going to present a proposal to the Panamanian government.
“Remember that there was a negotiation on two agreements between Costa Rica and China,” he said.
“One is bilateral investment protection agreement and the other one is the free trade agreement. We have not only the diplomatic relations, but also all the economic relations have been upgraded with these two agreements. The enforcement is already in place. Gradually, we will see the results of all that.”
Chinese groups in Costa Rica have made many contributions, he added.
“We have a number of very prominent Chinese, including astronauts that have been in the NASA program in the US. In fact, the first Latin-American astronaut is a Costa Rican Chinese.”
