A cultural delegation from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has arrived in New York to take part in a series of cultural exchange activities, with the aim of enhancing mutual understanding.
The group, organized by the Information Office of the State Council, has already visited Houston, Texas.
Xinjiang has witnessed rapid development in recent years, with the Belt and Road Initiative and the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China providing unprecedented opportunities for the region, said Zuo Feng, head of the delegation.

James B. Heimowitz, chair of the China Institute, said many Americans have a negative attitude towards Xinjiang and China due to some one-sided reports in the Western media.
"The visit of the delegation will enhance bilateral relations and cooperation and the China Institute also promised to promote cooperation between the two sides," he said.
New York is the second leg of the delegation's visit to North America.
The group is scheduled to visit the Canadian cities Toronto and Ottawa.
