Now for some updated news about Britain's ongoing divorce process from the European Union. EU President Donald Tusk says he's certain the bloc's members would accept a draft treaty unveiled Wednesday for Brexit. Tusk spoke after British Prime Minister Theresa May rejected the draft earlier. Tusk also warned Britain that its plan to leave the EU's customs union and single market could mean a return to a "hard border" in Ireland.
DONALD TUSK EU PRESIDENT "And one of the possible negative consequences of this kind of Brexit, is a hard border on the island of Ireland. Until now, no one has come up with anything wiser than that (plan). In a few hours I will be asking in London whether the UK government has a better idea, that would be as effective in preventing a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland."
Tusk said the EU's proposal to incorporate Northern Ireland within a "common regulatory area" was the best option to avoid border frictions. He added that May should come up with an alternative if she doesn't like the proposal. Tusk also confirmed that he will distribute negotiating proposals next week for a future trade relationship with Britain. That will follow May's expected announcement of her proposals on Friday.
