A successful space mission for China's latest lunar probe. Officials announced that the Chang'e – 4's mission on the moon has been completed as planned. CGTN reporter Ning Hong has more from the Beijing Aerospace Center
Another victory in space for China. The nation's latest lunar probe, the Chang'e-4 has met its engineering targets. Chinese vice Liu He made the announcement at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center on Friday.
LIU HE VICE PREMIER "It is a new contribution to humanity in the exploration of the Universe."
Footage of Chang'e-4's landing process was also released. The footage was filmed by the camera on the probe's bottom. It shows the maneuvers made during the landing process while it searched for ideal locations to land. There was also a demonstration of the patroller, the Yuetu-2, taking a photo of the probe. It is the first complete image of the probe after making a soft-landing on the far side of the moon.
LIU JIZHONG, VICE DIRECTOR CHINA LUNAR EXPLORATION "All the scientific payloads, and the transition of data are working well. The success of the mission has laid a very good foundation for the data processing, scientific research and exploration of our next part of work."
The patroller, Yuetu-2 has traveled for over 40 meters. Thanks to the relay satellite, the communication between the lander and the earth is possible.
HE JUN, DEPUTY DIRECTOR BEIJING AEROSPACE CONTROL CENTER "In order to solve the communication between earth and the probe, we designed a halo orbit for the relay satellite, which is vertical to the line between earth and the moon. It could increase the coverage of communication."
All eight payloads on board the Chang'e-4 are reported to be in good condition. Many of them have sent data back to earth. The patroller will continue to explore lunar surface further away from the lander.
NING HONG BEIJING "The success of Chang'e -4 mission is a milestone of China's Lunar exploration effort. It is another solid step that China takes to go further into deep space. Ning Hong, CGTN, Beijing."
