The Beijing International Radio, TV and Film Exhibition, or BIRTV, kicked off on Wednesday. The event is considered as one of the most influential exhibitions in Asia’s broadcast media industry.
Over 500 exhibitors from China and overseas are showcasing their new products and concepts. One of the main innovations featured at the expo is the 4K resolution for televisions.
Nie Chenxi, head of the State General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, as well as China Central Television (CCTV) network attended the BIRTV exhibition.
Nie and other representatives visited more than 10 exhibitors to get more insight on the latest developments in the field of radio and television.

Stopping at CCTV's exhibition area, they were introduced to the CCTV media convergence technology system.
Nie put on a VR gear with great interest and watched VR videos about the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the celebrations marking the 90th founding anniversary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Nie highly praised the event for promoting the development of China's radio and television industry, and enhancing international exchanges and cooperation, which have played a very positive and important role in serving social needs.
Li Jianxin, product manager at Sony China told CGTN that with the 4k technology becoming ever more mature, some leading manufacturers are adding new features, to deliver the highest possible quality content.
“4k is only a resolution factor, but to get a better picture, not only pixels, you need to care about the color. To get a more beautiful photo, you need other technologies. So 4k, HDR, and High Frame Rate, that's HFR, are the three top factors demonstrated here.”
Another primary focus this year is the Media Central kitchen or media hub.
To survive and thrive, several Chinese media outlets carried out reforms to build up a media convergence platform, allowing the material to be shared and jointly used for news editing and production.
Chen Wu, the Project Manager from Dayang, said, “the convergence of information from various sources is becoming ever more diverse, providing references to journalists with improved efficiency."
Elena Miloradova from Opertec noted that now exhibitors abroad are willing to provide more services than merely products selling.
“We are producing gyro stabilized heads, and other equipment, which is used for film and TV market. We are showing our equipment here, and want to tell that we are not only selling but want to teach Chinese people to work on this equipment and to make it as professionals want.”
Secretary-General of BIRTV Jin Ying told CGTN that the exhibition is playing host to a series of activities, aiming to boost shared broadcast resources and enhance exchanges among Belt and Road countries.
“There’s still a gap in broadcast development between China and many other Belt and Road countries. This time, we have a delegation of over 40 people from more than 20 participating countries, ranging from technicians to show producers. This will help build connectivity in this sector.”
