Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) leader Martin Schulz on Thursday in Berlin ahead of the G20 summit.
Xi said China is willing to make concerted efforts with Germany to continuously take bilateral relations to new heights. He spoke highly of the SPD’s contribution to China-Germany relations, noting the important role played by party-to-party contacts in developing bilateral ties.
The Chinese president also met Mayor of Hamburg Olaf Scholz, upon arriving at the city later on Thursday. Xi said China welcomed Hamburg to take part in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and is willing to enhance pragmatic cooperation with the city in various fields.
President Xi met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Hamburg on the same day.
Xi said China is willing to make joint efforts with Singapore to promote the bilateral “partnership of all-round cooperation keeping with the times” to constantly achieve fresh progress.
