Chinese netizens not satisfied with MAMA’s apology

South Korea’s annual major K-pop music awarding ceremony Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) has made the Chinese public furious for listing Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan as “countries,” along with other nations on the voting page of its official website

Chinese fans have called on to boycott MAMA following the incident. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are de facto regions of China.

On China’s influential social media platform Weibo, user @Margindy said, “We like South Korean stars, but it doesn’t mean we have no bottom line. There are no celebrities and fans but only country.”

While user @lamol said, “South Korea is making troubles by provoking the one-China Principle.”

In response to netizens’ outcry, MAMA has made a statement on Weibo on Wednesday night saying, “We feel the same way and deeply apologize for the public’s concern. Relevant webpages have been completely deleted. We will be more prudent and prevent such incidents in the future.”

But Chinese netizens are demanding a clear apology.

User @bujiatangdenaifentang said, “You should clearly write down what you have done wrong and why you apologized on Weibo and other social media platforms.”

And user @fyounever said, “It is not ‘concern’, it is ‘fury’.”

MAMA 2017 is set to stage three performances in Vietnam, Japan and China’s Hong Kong between November 25 and December 1.
