An official in charge of the Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Sunday condemned and lodged solemn representations to some foreign media which, in total disregard of facts, made presumptuous and irresponsible comments on Hong Kong's suspension of fugitive bill amendments.

The government of Hong Kong SAR on Saturday said it would temporarily halt the introduction of a fugitive bill in the wake of public views after riots on Wednesday.

"The central government strongly condemns violent acts, and firmly supports the Hong Kong police force in meting out punishment in accordance with law. It upholds the rule of law and social stability in Hong Kong," Lu said.

He also reiterated that the Hong Kong issue is part of China's internal affairs, and outside parties should not interfere.
