Hong Kong court presses charges against violent act offender

A 31-year-old man was charged in Hong Kong on Friday with assaulting eight officers, criminal damage and behaving in a disorderly manner.

He is the first suspect to appear in court in connection with the recent violent acts in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The suspect, identified as Pun Ho-chiu, appeared Friday morning at Eastern Court over his alleged involvement in the blockade of the city's police headquarters on June 21 and violent act in the HKSAR Legislative Council complex on July 1.

He was arrested on July 3. The case will return to the same court on August 2.
