What is your impression of Brazil?

Samba, carnivals, birds-of-paradise, Gisele Bündchen, soccer superstars. The country is usually described as vibrant, dynamic, colorful, and always full of a party atmosphere. Among all the charming features of Brazil, soccer provides vibe, samba provides rhythm, and orchids provide color.

South America, especially the Amazon River area, boasts various tropical and subtropical orchid species. In blossom seasons, brilliant orchid flowers compose a symphony of colors. Different from pale, elegant Chinese orchids, Latin American orchids are more ebullient and colorful. From red to purple, even black, all colors can be found in orchids. Brazilians’ favorite orchid is Cattleya Iabiata – widely known as the “corsage orchid” as people like to wear it to dinners and ceremonies as a cute accessory. The Brazilian corsage orchid is the country’s national flower, and people usually call it the “queen of orchids.”

Brazil has extraordinary biodiversity. So when Brazilian people had to select a national flower, they had more than 40 options, which were all exotic, impressive, and native to Brazil. The corsage orchid won the honor because people believe the flower reflects the spirit of Brazil.
