CGTN Nature's film crew recently captured footage of the Pallas's squirrel in the Jianfengling tropical rainforest in China's southern island province of Hainan.

Pallas's squirrel is a medium-sized tree squirrel. Both sexes are of similar size and appearance. They can usually be found in a range of forest below 3,000 meters of elevation in much of southeastern Asia.

Pallas's squirrel's ankles have extreme rotational capability. Their claws sink into tree branch or trunk as they run, ensuring them a firm grip. Also, with large and protruding eyes, Pallas's squirrel has sharp vision and can distinguish vertical objects pretty well.

Pallas's squirrels are important as seed dispersers of tree species. However, they have a habit of gnawing on tree bark, which sometimes kills the tree in the worst condition.
