In response, Geng urged meddlers to stop pointing fingers as countries in the region can properly solve the South China Sea issue and do not need outside intervention.
"The current situation in the South China Sea is generally stable," Geng said, noting that China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries are actively promoting pragmatic maritime cooperation and consultation on a Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea to effectively safeguard peace and stability in the region.
The official said China has always been committed to properly handling and resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation with the countries directly involved, advancing cooperation in various areas, and jointly safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea.
China and the ASEAN members are on the right path to solve the South China Sea issue, Geng said, stressing that outsiders should stop standing in the way.
