This year's military parade consisted of 15 foot formations, many of which were shown for the first time in China's National Day celebrations taking place in Beijing on Tuesday.

The People's Liberation Army's (PLA) Strategic Support Force (SSF) formation marched through Tian'anmen Square, making its first public appearance in a National Day military parade.

The SSF is a new type of combat force for safeguarding national security and an important driver for the growth of new combativeness.

Following the SSF, the PLA's Joint Logistic Support Force formation also appeared for the first time. This force serves as an important component of a modern military force with Chinese characteristics.

The formation of military academies made its debut as well. This highly-educated team includes members from the National Defense University of the PLA, the National University of Defense and Technology and the PLA Academy of Military Sciences, showcasing the important position of the military academies and scientific research institutes in strengthening China's armed forces.

The civilian staff in the armed forces, a newly-established team, consists of members from the joint logistic support force, embodying the vital role played by civilian personnel in military development during the reform process.

Other new faces in this year's parade include the formation of military officers and Chinese peacekeeping forces.
