Of all snub-nosed monkeys in China, the gray species has the smallest population and is the most endangered. Grey snub-nosed monkeys were once found in northeastern Guizhou and southeastern Sichuan provinces. Changes in the natural environment gradually shrank their habitat to the region of Mount Fanjing. Its population is just over 800, even smaller than that of the giant panda.
