Bird's eye view of Shangri-La: The sacred glacier is melting quickly
Mingyong glacier is a monsoon marine glacier sitting on the slopes of the Meili Snow Mountains in Shangri-La. It is the largest and longest glacier in China's Yunnan Province. However, the glacier is melting quickly due to climate change. The tree line has been seen rising and ice collapse happens more frequently than twenty years ago. The glacier is sacred to the local people, and the whole eco-system is important to us.
CGTN Nature documentary crew filmed the glacier last month. From the bird's eye view, the Mingyong glacier is stunning, but how long can the natural wonder last?
