Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed on Tuesday to make joint efforts with French President Emmanuel Macron to safeguard multilateralism, oppose unilateralism, and step up efforts to promote an open world economy, adding that he is willing to join hands with Macron to address global challenges.

In a telephone conversation held at the invitation of the French side, Xi thanked Macron for his congratulatory letter on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), adding that the French government and people have provided much help and support to the PRC.

China will continue to work together with people in France and other countries to promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, Xi said.

Noting that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic ties, Xi recalled his successful state visit to France in March, saying he is willing to maintain exchanges and communication with Macron to further promote cooperation.

France is welcome to attend the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai in November as a guest of honor, Xi also told Macron.

In response, Macron expressed his support to the second CIIE.

The French president expressed his willingness to deepen cooperation with China in fields that include trade, civil nuclear energy, aviation, culture, and to make joint efforts to uphold multilateralism and address major global challenges, such as environmental issues and climate change.

The two leaders also exchanged views on major international and regional issues of common concern.
