Shining red "pearls" hanging from a tree
By Ding Qian

With all kinds of fruits hanging on branches, autumn is truly the season of harvest. In China, you may encounter a kind of tree called Amur honeysuckle with red fruits as shiny as pearls.

The tree is a common ornamental plant in the country. It blossoms in late spring and early summer with fragrant white and yellow flowers. In autumn, the branches are dotted with dazzling red fruits which can last for a long period. These lovely red "pearls" are also delicacies for birds.

Here are some photos of these red fruits seen at Laoshan park in west Beijing, capital of China.

If you want to grow Amur honeysuckle in your garden, here are some tips for you:

1. The suitable temperature for its growth is 14-28 degrees Celsius, and the overwintering temperature should not be lower than minus 15 degrees Celsius.

2. It grows best in dry soil with slight moisture.

3. It likes strong light, so plant it in a sunny spot with no less than four hours of direct sunlight a day.

4. Good ventilation is conducive to photosynthesis.
