Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Chief Executive Carrie Lam condemned violent protesters and urged residents, especially students, not to engage in violent or illegal activities.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Lam said that the recent violence and vandalism have paralyzed Hong Kong and that protesters responsible for this situation are extremely selfish.

"School is not a place for politics," she said, urging teachers and students not to engage in political activities at schools.

She also called on residents to stand together to safeguard Hong Kong and avoid violent acts.

Lam added that the government will do its best to make sure that the district council elections are held as scheduled on November 24.

On Monday, Lam gave a statement on what is said to be one of the worst days of violence since protests erupted in the city in June. Monday's protests paralyzed roads and forced the closure of more than 32 railway stations throughout the day. The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) condemned the illegal acts.

On that day, one person was injured after being shot by a police officer, and another individual was set on fire by protesters
