Rare scenes of wild lynxes were recently captured at the Nanweng River National Nature Reserve in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

Infrared camera footage shows a wild lynx bellowing at night.

There are also scenes of four wild lynxes chasing a magpie, a rare instance as the animal is solitary, according to Dong Lixin, staff member of the nature reserve.

Lynx is a medium-sized wild cat that does not have a constant den and likes to prey on other medium and large-sized animals during the night.

It is under the second-class state protection in China.

Their presence at the reserve is indicative of improvement in local ecology and abundance of food for wild animals in the eastern part of the Greater Hinggan Range.
