Journalists are the bridge that connects the audiences to the world. With technological development, the "bridge" has seen many upgrades.

Compared with decades ago, the way journalists report has changed dramatically.

As a CGTN journalist, interviewing people is my main job. Normally, I have a cameraman who goes out with me on interviews. But, what am I going to do if there is a piece of breaking news, or when we are short-handed?

I don't have to worry because I can play both parts with portable filming devices. The equipment we use nowadays weighs much lighter than before, and for scenes that do not require professional shooting techniques, a mobile phone can do all the work.

High-tech equipment also provides us with more possibilities in news production.

With various shooting equipment like VR cameras, glasses cameras, we can record footage from brand new angles.

And unmanned devices, such as drones, camera cars and submarine cameras, can get footage from extreme environments where people cannot reach.

Any journalist who has captured valuable footage would want to publish it as fast as possible. But high-resolution videos are often the size of several GigaBytes.

The fast-developing 5G network makes it possible for us to transfer high-resolution videos within minutes. 5G can achieve up to 10 Gigabits per second data rates, which is a hundred times faster than 4G networks.

And all kinds of social media platforms allow us to spread the news to audiences across the world with one click.

With the help of technology, we can produce news with higher quality, and distribute them to more audiences in a way that's much faster than before.

Although the ways of reporting have been changing, our goal remains the same – to provide you with fair and truthful news.

How are we gonna report five or 10 years later? I can't wait to see it!

The third CGTN Global Media Summit and CCTV+ Video Media Forum is held on December 4 in Beijing. With this year's theme on "Media vs Technology," the summit is expected to explore new possibilities and disruptions brought by technology to the media industry.
