Five plants that can bring you luck in the new year

It's a new year, a fresh start, and there is no nicer way to celebrate it than with some beautiful plants. They are pleasant to watch and can purify the air in your home. More than that, there are some plants that are considered lucky in Feng Shui, a Chinese geomancy that has been practiced since ancient times.

They are:

As its name suggests, the plant has something to do with luck. As an important part in Feng Shui, the nearly indestructible plant is said to be able to bring fortune to your home. In Chinese, the plant is called fugui zhu – "fugui" for "wealth and rank", and "zhu" for "bamboo". The plant can thrive in many conditions, either in soil or in water. It's perfect for people who do not possess green fingers.

2. Golden Pothos

This is probably the most popular houseplant. According to Feng Shui, the plant can bring wealth and prosperity to your home. It can purify the air and absorb radiation.

3. Orchid

According to Feng Shui, potted orchid plants are said to bring luck in relationships. Pink orchids can bring harmonious relationship. White orchids can fill the household with peace, and the violet ones are considered to be the most auspicious.

4. Peace Lily

According to NASA Clean Air Study, peace lily can purify air better than the average plant. The elegant plant is native to Latin American rain forests. Its true flower is actually the spadix which looks like a spiky stem. It's considered a fortune plant, but be careful: it's toxic, and ingestion of peace lily can cause vomiting and other irritations. 

5. Pachira

Pachira, known as the money tree in China, is said to bring fortune and happiness. Its dark green leaves resemble human hands with five fingers. In Feng Shui, the number five represents the Five Elements – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Therefore, the plant is a perfect choice for prosperity into your home.
