China's ambassador to the United States denied allegations accusing China of being uncooperative and rejecting help from the U.S. over a novel coronavirus outbreak, saying certain politicians and media are trying to take advantage of China's suffering.
China welcomes support and help from countries all around the world including the U.S., and actually the World Health Organization (WHO) is leading the international medical experts team investigating the outbreak right now, Cui Tiankai said in a recent interview with China's Central Television in Washington.
As of February 19, the virus (COVID-19) has infected over 74,600 cases mostly in China and killed 2,121 people. The virus was believed to start in a seafood market in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province last December, and quickly spread across China and overseas.

Expressing gratitude, Cui said China has gained a lot help from both the U.S. government and companies.
He said the remarks made by President Donald Trump, as the highest-level of the U.S. government, is an expression of support and many American companies also donated a large amount of supplies and equipment to China to assist the epidemic relief.
Trump said he is confident that China is "trying very hard" in handling the outbreak in an interview with Fox on Wednesday. "I think the numbers are going to get progressively better as we go along," he added.
However, Cui said "there is a big 'but'," noting that some U.S. politicians and media outlets are trying to take advantage of China's suffering.

Speaking of reports saying China is ignoring U.S. help, Cui reiterated that China welcomes help from all countries, but he also said China wants to receive the expert help in an orderly manner.
"Right now, people in China are so preoccupied with their work to combat the virus. We have to have an orderly manner. There is a real risk that they might be exposed to virus. We have to take good protection of them."
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said last month that the epidemic could "help" to bring jobs back to the U.S. Some other officials suggested that China is not cooperating with the U.S and the State Department later raised its travel advisory for China to the highest level, same as for Iraq and Afghanistan.
U.S. Senator Tom Cotton suggested in early February that Chinese officials misled the public on the origins of the coronavirus, saying it may have come from China's biological warfare program.

The Chinese ambassador refuted those remarks and moves earlier this month, warning against "political virus" and xenophobia as the virus spreads across the world.
