The pneumonia outbreak was first reported in the city of Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province, in December 2019. Experts have attributed the outbreak to a novel coronavirus that has since spread across China and abroad.

The latest in China: 80,174 confirmed cases; 2,915 deaths (including 2 in Hong Kong and 1 in Taiwan); 44,518 recovered
Outside of China: Over 9,400 confirmed cases, 142 deaths
Countries on alert:
South Korea: 4,335 confirmed cases, 22 deaths.
Thailand, the U.S. and Australia: First deaths on Sunday.
Iran: 66 deaths, including its former ambassador to the Vatican. Iran's vice president for women's and family affairs has also tested positive.
Italy: 1,694 confirmed cases, including 34 deaths, topping Europe.
The U.S.: 2 deaths, 89 confirmed cases, including four with undetermined origins.
The WHO said the global coronavirus risk is now "very high".
