China has strongly opposed the untrue information about Xinjiang in the "2019 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices" released by the U.S. State Department on Wednesday.

China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang on Thursday said the content about China in the document ignores facts.

"The Chinese government has paid high attention to human rights protection and promotion," Geng noted, adding that great progress has been made since the the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The human rights situation in China is at its best in history, and the Chinese people have the best say over it, Geng said.

Liu Hua, the special representative for human rights affairs of China's Foreign Ministry, condemned the move by "a few countries" to politicize the issue of human rights and impose "Western-style democracy" on other countries at the ongoing 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Some Western countries refused to send representatives to visit China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for various reasons but kept producing rumors and slander, he said.
