Xi Jinping discusses joint efforts against COVID-19 with world leaders in phone conversations

Chinese President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that China is willing to help Brazil as much as possible and contribute to global pandemic containment.

Xi made the remarks during a phone call with Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro.

Recently, the pandemic has spread around the world rapidly and it is imperative that all countries strengthen cooperation, Xi pointed out.

"China has always adhered to the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind. China has released the epidemic information in a timely, open, transparent and responsible manner, and shared the experience of prevention, control, and treatment with the World Health Organization and the international community and provided assistance to many countries. I am very concerned about the development of the pandemic in Brazil and hope that Brazil can stop the spread of the disease as soon as possible," Xi said.

Bolsonaro said he hopes to strengthen communication and experience sharing with China on the pandemic containment, so as to curb the spread of COVID-19 as soon as possible.

Showing respect to the Chinese people, the Brazilian president said Brazil-China friendship and their comprehensive strategic partnership are indestructible.

Brazil is willing to strengthen bilateral cooperation with China as well as communication and coordination within the multilateral framework of the G20, he added.

COVID-19 fight adds urgency to building community with shared future for mankind 

In a phone call with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President Xi said that in the battle against the COVID-19 the urgency and significance of building a community with a shared future for mankind have become even greater. 

At the most difficult moment in China's battle against the epidemic, the Kazakh government and society have offered China strong support, recalled the Chinese president.

Meanwhile, he reaffirmed China's stance to work with Kazakhstan and all other countries to strengthen international cooperation against the pandemic and safeguard global public health security. 

In response, Tokayev said that under the wise leadership of Xi, the Chinese people have made outstanding achievements in COVID-19 containment, bringing confidence and hope to people across the world. 

The entire world has witnessed the superb performance of China's healthcare system and the great dedication of Chinese medical workers, and China has once again demonstrated its governance capacity in tackling complex and difficult challenges with high efficiency, said the president, expressing Kazakhstan's high appreciation and congratulations. 

The Kazakh side, he said, is committed to enhancing the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and promoting the Belt and Road cooperation, which fully serves the common interests of both peoples.

China firmly supports Poland's fight against COVID-19 

President Xi also held phone talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda the same day, stressing China's firm support to the Polish government and people in combating the virus. 

After the coronavirus disease broke out in China, Xi said, the Polish government and society have extended sympathy and support to the Chinese people, who will cherish in their hearts.

Noting that Poland is a key cooperation partner of China in the European Union (EU) and among Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs), Xi said China is willing to work with Poland to strengthen high-level exchanges and cement mutual understanding and strategic mutual trust so as to continuously tighten China-Poland ties and make important contributions to promoting China-CEEC cooperation and China-EU relations. 

For his part, Duda said that the timely, decisive and rigorous measures taken by China have effectively contained the spread of COVID-19, and that he admires the Chinese people and the Chinese medical workers who have joined the fight against the epidemic. 

Poland thanks China for providing timely and valuable support that embodies the deep friendship between the two countries, said the president. 

Poland is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields and work together to promote CEEC-China cooperation, he said, adding that he cherishes his friendship with Xi and looks forward to visiting China as soon as possible after the epidemic.
