With its canopy covering 800 square meters, the 48-meter-tall hsienmu (Excentrodendron hsienmu) is about 2,300 years old. It offers an ideal living space for shade-loving plants on rocky mountains.
South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is home to more than 1,100 kinds of terrestrial vertebrates, of which about 150 species are under state protection. Its coastal area is covered with 40 percent of the country's mangrove forests. The five-episode Southwestern Guangxi Series brings a glimpse of the region's special terrain and native wildlife.
