Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that he may have contracted COVID-19 during a nationwide lockdown imposed by the UK government as the pandemic ravaged the country.

According to BBC, the UK has more than 12,000 coronavirus-related deaths and over 100,000 confirmed cases, making it the sixth-worst affected in the world.

De Bruyne said he and several members of his family felt ill for a long period of time, but they recovered before confirming whether they have the deadly virus.

"At the beginning of the lockdown my family was sick for eight or nine days," the 28-year-old told Sky Sports. "It started with my little boy, then my older boy and then my wife, but I don't know if we had [coronavirus] or not."

"Luckily we are out of it and the last two or three weeks has been really good and we are finding a routine and everything so we are fine," he added.

"I had just a little bit of pain in my throat but out of the four I was really good in comparison to the other ones. I am happy that they feel fine and now they are doing really well."

De Bruyne also explained why he posted a hilarious video of himself using his two sons as leg weights.

"You have to keep them entertained and they want to have fun," he said. "It was just a joke. I didn't want to post it but my missus was like 'this is funny and people will like it.' In the end it was just some fun and a lot of people enjoyed it."

"I get bored of doing stuff on my own anyway so I prefer to do running, where I keep busy for myself and listen to some podcasts and all that stuff."

English football was suspended until at least April 30 due to the current coronavirus crisis, but Premier League clubs have discussed resuming the season on the weekend of June 13-14.
