China urges the Indian side to avoid taking any actions that will complicate the boundary situation, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian at Wednesday's press conference.
The spokesperson made the remarks when asked to comment on the recent "skirmish" between Chinese and Indian forces.
The two sides should meet each other halfway and work together to maintain the security and peace along the boundary, as well as the relations between the two sides, Zhao stressed.
He added that China has always maintained a clear and consistent position on the two countries' boundary issues, and the Chinese border troops have always patrolled the Chinese side of the line of control on the China-India border.
A spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of Defense commented on the issue, saying that the two sides disengaged after dialogue and interaction at a local level, and troops resolve such issues mutually as per established protocols.
The Indian ministry spokesperson said "temporary and short" face-offs between troops from both countries are a regular occurrence.
The two sides held the 22nd special representatives' meeting on boundary question in December last year and agreed to enhance mutual political trust so as to handle border issues properly and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas.
