China and India have a proper mechanism and communication channels between over their border issues, and the two sides are keeping contacts through military and diplomatic channels, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Friday.

Geng made the remarks when asked whether Chinese and Indian military leaders will meet on Saturday to address border disputes.

Without giving confirmation on the bilateral meeting, Geng stressed the situation at the border with India is overall stable and controllable and assured reporters that the two sides could properly handle the issue.

China has repeatedly voiced its stance on the issue and urged the two sides to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries by strictly abiding by the relevant agreements signed by the two countries.

China has also expressed opposition to any third-party intervention after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly discussed border issues with U.S. President Donald Trump during a phone conversation, despite New Delhi's rejection of intervention made earlier.
