A pair of spotted doves seemed to be building a nest in Beijing's buzzling Guomao downtown area on Thursday and Friday. The birds were hard at work, flying to and from a tree to the ground to find the perfect nesting materials.

Spotted doves usually live in pairs or small groups. They forage on the ground for grains and seeds and when they are alarmed, they fly quickly to the trees nearby. In temperate ranges, they breed in summer. Their nests are often built on trees, sometimes on buildings or grounds. Dove couples typically contribute to the nest construction.

Guomao is at the center of the Beijing central business district, which is characterized by skyscrapers.
