A liaison group of the State Council joint prevention and control mechanism against COVID-19 left central China's Hubei Province and returned to Beijing on Friday, as the once hard-hit province recovers from the pandemic.

The group, arriving in the provincial capital of Wuhan on May 4, was tasked with guiding and supporting regular epidemic prevention and control and facilitating the resumption of work, production and education in Wuhan and other parts of Hubei. Wuhan was once China's epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak

The group consists of officials from various central government agencies such as the General Office of the State Council, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Health Commission.

During the past two months and a half, the group visited nearly 200 hospitals, communities, quarantine stations, enterprises, schools, transport stops and shops to guide epidemic control; it held more than 70 meetings and other events to coordinate epidemic control and promote the resumption of work, production and education.

Wuhan tested nearly 10 million people between May 14 and June 1 in a citywide drive to screen COVID-19 infections. No confirmed cases were found in the process, but 300 asymptomatic cases were found and quarantined.

In particular, the group helped with Hubei's economic recovery through financial and job support. It worked with government agencies of the province and financial institutions to channel funding to local companies. The group also organized free professional skills training for one million college graduates, veterans and rural migrant workers.
