The 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) ended on Saturday. Over the past eight days, the festival has showcased the development of Chinese film and the BJIFF over the past decade, offering masterclasses, forums, film screenings and online events to the best of their ability during this special period.

The 10th BJIFF held 10 theme forums, four masterclasses, and a series of wonderful film venture capital activities. For the first time, these events are presented collectively on the "cloud." Among them, the combination of online and offline mode is also the highlight of this year.

For the first time, the film screening of this year's BJIFF provided services to the audience through online, TV, cinema, and outdoor screenings. China allowed cinemas in low-risk areas to resume operations starting July 20, following an improvement in the country's epidemic situation. The news that China's single-day box office takings exceeded 550 million yuan on August 25 is also a shot in the arm for the film market. At that time, guests attending the forum of the festival were also excited to hear the news.

In addition, although the epidemic situation abroad is unclear, meaning that many filmmakers cannot travel to the Chinese mainland, online masterclasses and forums have also added vitality and impetus to the festival. There were many famous directors, including Ang Lee, Stanley Kwan and Jessica Hausner, who shared their most authentic career and life experiences, passed on to fans through a variety of channels.

A total of 90 industry leaders, famous filmmakers, experts and scholars were invited to deliver keynote speeches on the development of the film industry in the ten theme forums. CGTN also interviewed a number of well-known film and television practitioners including Japanese director Takeuchi Ryo, Chinese director Guo Fan, Chinese actor Deng Chao, actresses Yong Mei and Yan Bingyan and general manager of China Film Co-production Company Liu Chun, to discuss the recovery of the film industry after the epidemic and the development of China's film industry.

This festival, in conjunction with social and market forces, upgraded online and offline activities, including a science and technology film section, an animated short film section, and an animation and game film section, so that a larger audience and industry insiders can participate in and enjoy these diversified activities.

With the integration of Chinese films into the world, the BJIFF has become an important part of global film events. Recently, the BJIFF has become an observer and weathervane of the film industry, providing practitioners with a platform for exchanging ideas and sharing new knowledge.
