Confirmed COVID-19 cases have surpassed 37.8 million globally, with over 1 million fatalities and more than 26 million recovered patients, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.

Here is what we know:

The Chinese mainland reported 13 new cases on Monday, seven from overseas and six locally transmitted, according to the National Health Commission. All of the locally transmitted cases were in east China's Shandong Province.

Qingdao City in the province had collected over 3 million samples across the city for coronavirus testing by Tuesday morning and found no more positive cases, according to the local health authorities.

The U.S. has registered over 215,000 deaths and more than 7.8 million infections – both the highest in the world. White House physician Sean Conley said on Monday that President Donald Trump has tested negative for COVID-19 "on consecutive days" and is "not infectious to others," as Trump returned to the campaign trail by attending a rally in Florida.

A new Australian study suggested SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, can remain infectious for 28 days in lab, a significantly longer time than previously thought.
