Menggen Village in Yunnan Province's Lancang Lahu Autonomous County is home to the Lahu people, who boast a rich and vibrant culture. In 2015, Hu Hong, a scholar from the Kunming Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was selected as the first secretary to help the impoverished village.

In recent years, the villagers have given full play to their unique ethnic culture and developed distinctive rural song and dance performances, which have become one of the most important channels for poor households to increase their income.
