Live updates: Global COVID-19 cases exceed 60.8 million

Confirmed COVID-19 cases across the globe have exceeded 60.8 million, with over 1.42 million fatalities and more than 38.9 million recoveries, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.

The Chinese mainland on Thursday recorded five new cases of COVID-19, all from overseas. 

The U.S. now has over 12.8 million COVID-19 cases with over 263,000 fatalities, both the highest in the world.

Germany will extend its current coronavirus restrictions through early January unless there is a dramatic drop in infections, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Wednesday.

Sweden's Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia have tested positive for COVID-19 after displaying mild flu-like symptoms, the Swedish Royal Court announced on Thursday.
