A spokesperson for the government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) announced on Monday that the special work arrangements for government employees will be extended until January 6 next year as the local epidemic situation remains severe.

Except for those involved in the provision of emergency services and essential public services, all other government employees will continue to work from home, the HKSAR government said in a statement.

The Education Bureau also announced on Monday that schools will extend the suspension of in-class teaching until January 10.

The suspension covers face-to-face teaching in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as tutorial schools, said the bureau.
