China and Brunei agreed to align both countries' objectives through 2035, during the visit of the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to the country.

In a meeting between the Chinese foreign minister and Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, China and Brunei agreed to align China's Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035 with Brunei's Wawasan 2035. The meeting took place in Brunei's capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan on Thursday.

Wang said China is willing to continue its cooperation with Brunei in the fight against the pandemic, including vaccines, and agreed to establish an "express line" to facilitate the necessary exchanges between the two peoples and explore the establishment of a "green channel" for trade.

He said the two countries should enhance cooperation on the Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor as well in the agriculture and fishery sectors, explore new growth points such as 5G, big data and cloud computing, and make new contributions to the economic diversification of Brunei.

For Brunei's part, the officials said that China is a traditional friendly neighbor of the country and an important partner, adding that Brunei hopes to strengthen the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries by striving for progress in major cooperative projects, including the Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor.

They also appreciated China's support to the country in fighting the pandemic, adding that Brunei hopes to cooperate with China in terms of COVID-19 vaccines, and provide guarantee for the two countries' people-to-people exchanges as well as cooperation in other areas.
