China is planning to accelerate legislation against "foreign sanctions, interference and long-arm jurisdiction," according to a work report by the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature.
In the report, the committee vowed to develop a more complete system of laws and regulations related to external affairs.
"We will upgrade the legal tool kit for meeting challenges and guarding against risks in order to oppose foreign sanctions, interference and long-arm jurisdiction," top legislator Li Zhanshu said at the fourth session of the 13th NPC on Monday.

Liao Fan, a professor at the Institute of International Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told CGTN that the move is necessary to safeguard the safety and stability of China and strike back against the "unjustified extraterritorial application" of some foreign laws.
"We all remember what have happened in the last two or three years since the China-U.S. trade friction, the Hong Kong disturbance and the Huawei event, for example," Liao said.
"In these events, we have witnessed the abuse of the so-called economic sanctions and also the long-arm jurisdiction used by some foreign countries to threat the safety and stability of China," he explained.
