The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held a press conference on Tuesday to unveil a series of celebration activities to commence the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, focusing on Party history learning, especially for the young.
It was the CPC Central Committee's first press conference this year.
According to one of the attending officials, Wang Xiaohui, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, celebration activities in eight categories will be carried out for the centenary.
The CPC Central Committee will launch a campaign on Party history learning and education among all Party members throughout the year, Wang said.
Earlier in February, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC, pointed out that learning the Party's history will help the Party remain true to its original aspiration to better serve the country.
Wang said that it's even more important for the younger generation to learn from the past and summarize the historical experience.
To celebrate the anniversary, China will also hold a grand performance and promote a series of literary and artistic works, including films, publications and dramas, themed on CPC history.
The CPC will award the "July 1 Medal" and honor outstanding Party members, exemplary Party workers, and advanced community-level Party organizations.
From 1921 to 2021, the Party has grown from some 50 members into the world's largest ruling political party, with more than 90 million members, according to Wang.
As of December 2019, the CPC had over 91.9 million members and nearly 4.7 million primary-level organizations, said Fu Xingguo, deputy head of the CPC Central Committee's Organization Department.
The primary-level Party organizations constitute the base for the governance of the CPC and are the foundation for all the Party's work and its capacity to take on challenges, Fu said.
The Party organizations at all levels are the pillars in tackling major challenges including epidemic control, poverty alleviation and disaster relief, Fu noted.
Officials have stressed that this year's celebration belongs to the people, and should be carried out among the people. Moreover, people from all walks of life and all parties around the world are welcomed to join in.
