Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called on a mobile corps of the People's Armed Police Force (PAP) to strengthen military training and combat readiness to enhance its capabilities to fulfill missions and tasks.

President Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks when inspecting the corps in southeast China's Fujian Province.

Xi watched a training session of the corps and learned about multiple specialized operations, including the use of anti-explosion equipment, scouting and decontamination in anti-chemical suits, the operation of engineering machinery and bridge erection.

He stressed the role of technology in military training, adding that training programs should be tailored to the needs of diversified tasks.

Efforts should be made to accelerate the modernization of the corps and its combat capabilities, he said.

The mobile corps is one of the main components of the PAP, along with the internal security corps and the coast guard, according to a white paper titled "China's National Defense in the New Era" released by State Council Information Office in 2019. The PAP shoulders important responsibilities in safeguarding national security, social stability and public well-being, the white paper said.

Xi concluded his four-day trip to Fujian on Thursday. It was his first inspection tour after China's annual Two Sessions earlier this month.
