China on Sunday voiced firm opposition to foreign politicians trampling on the rule of law in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and international law in response to accusations against sentencing several anti-China disruptors.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the HKSAR, some politicians in the United States, Britain and the European Union have made groundless accusations about the HKSAR court's sentencing of Jimmy Lai Chee-ying and Martin Lee Chu-ming in accordance with the law.

The HKSAR judiciary has sentenced the relevant people to prison for organizing and participating in unauthorized and unlawful assembly based on solid evidence and with a completely legitimate and transparent procedure, a spokesperson from the office of the commissioner said.

Some interfering foreign forces, who pay lip service to the rule of law, have kept glorifying the criminals as "democracy fighters," tried to obstruct the judicial proceedings and put political manipulation above the law of the HKSAR, the statement said.

While claiming to "stand with the Hong Kong people," they have shown total disregard for the popular will in the HKSAR and acted against the people by repeatedly undermining the rule of law, prosperity and stability in the HKSAR, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson continued that the self-proclaimed "champions of international rules" have again meddled in HKSAR affairs, which are China's internal affairs, in violation of international law and the basic norms governing international relations.

Their actions have revealed their double standard and selective application of international rules based solely on their self-interest, the spokesperson said.

No one shall be above the law, the statement said.

The office urged those countries to stop condoning and whitewashing criminals, stop undermining HKSAR's rule of law and judicial independence and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs as a whole.

They should be sure that any interference or pressure is doomed to be futile and only self-defeating, the statement said.
