President of the Legislative Council (LegCo) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Andrew Leung wrote in an article that the government is open to diverse ideas to fulfill more of the citizens' needs through objective conversation.

If anyone having anything unhappy, they can express it; if they share their views different from the governments, common ground should then be found, Leung wrote in the published piece, slamming actions or activities that could harm social order and harmony.

Leung also doubled down on his support for the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong" and the improvement of the Hong Kong electoral system.  As long as they are someone who genuinely loves the country and will not do things that harm national sovereignty, security and development interests, they can still be elected whether or not their governing ideologies are the same as the government's, he wrote.

In March, the decision on improving the electoral system of the region was adopted with overwhelming majority votes by the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature. The decision has won wide support from people from all walks of life in Hong Kong.

HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam expressed her firm support to the NPC decision. "I, together with the governing team of the HKSAR Government, would like to pledge our staunch support for and sincere gratitude to the passage of the decision on improving the electoral system of the HKSAR by the NPC this afternoon," she said after the adoption of the decision.
